ALUMINUM BRASS / COPPER STAINLESS STEEL STEEL / STEEL ALLOYS

ALUMINUM SUBSTRATE
Chem. Film (Iridite)
Chem. Film or Iridite is primarily used for mild corrosion protection with low electrical resistance and also improves paint adhesion on aluminum and aluminum alloys. ASTM B 449
Black Polyurethane
E-Coat
Black Polyurethane E-Coat is applied with an electrical current in an immersion process that results in a very uniform coating, even on complex parts. The thickness (0.2 to 1.0 mil) is lower than liquid paints or powder coat, making it an ideal finish for parts with close tolerances and threaded parts. Corrosion resistance is good, chip resistance is excellent, and the black finish is quite decorative.
Electroless Nickel
Electroless nickel is a hard coating that provides corrosion protection, wear resistance, electrical conductivity, and consistent thickness. ASTM B 733
Electroless Nickel/Tin
Electroless nickel/Tin is a bright tin-plating over a nickel coating that provides corrosion protection, electrical conductivity. Excellent for electronics where solder-ability and RF control are needed.
Electrolytic Nickel/Tin
Electrolytic Nickel/Tin provides corrosion protection and electrical conductivity.   Excellent for electronic fasteners and contacts where solder-ability is required.
Magni 560
(Dip spin)
Magni 560 combines an electroplated zinc and chromate underlayer with an aluminum-rich epoxy topcoat. The zinc layer provides sacrificial protection of the substrate and the topcoat creates a highly corrosion resistant barrier. Salt spray protection over 1000 hours is normal, with up to 3000 hours measured on some parts. A friction modifier provides low torque for fastener applications. The color is flat silver/gray. The cost is about twice that of zinc.
Special Etch
Special etch is a chemical etching process that cleans and brightens most aluminum parts.

Electrolytic nickel is a hard coating that provides corrosion protection; wear resistance, electrical conductivity, and bright finish. ASTM B 689
Electrolytic Nickel/Tin
Electrolytic Nickel/Tin provides corrosion protection and electrical conductivity.   Excellent for electronic fasteners and contacts where solder-ability is required.
Electrodeposited Tin
Electrodeposited Tin provides corrosion protection and electrical conductivity.   Excellent for electronic fasteners and contacts where solder-ability is required. ASTM B 545

STAINLESS STEEL SUBSTRATE
Passivate Passivate is a process that removes iron and foreign metals from the surface of stainless steel to help prevent oxidation and rust from forming on the surface.

STEEL / STEEL ALLOY SUBSTRATE
Black Polyurethane
E-Coat
Black Polyurethane E-Coat is applied with an electrical current in an immersion process that results in a very uniform coating, even on complex parts. The thickness (0.2 to 1.0 mil) is lower than liquid paints or powder coat, making it an ideal finish for parts with close tolerances and threaded parts. Corrosion resistance is good, chip resistance is excellent, and the black finish is quite decorative.
Clean and Oil
Clean and oil is used to clean mill scale and dirt from steel parts and is followed by a dry to touch oil to protect from corrosion.

Copper
Over Nickel

Electrodeposited Copper over Nickel produces an attractive finish that is highly conductive, solderable and corrosion resistant.

Electroless Nickel

Electroless nickel is a hard coating that provides corrosion protection, wear resistance, and consistent thickness. ASTM B 733

Electrolytic Nickel

Electrolytic nickel is a hard coating that provides corrosion protection; wear resistance, and bright finish. ASTM B 689

Electrodeposited Tin

Electrodeposited Tin provides corrosion protection and electrical conductivity.   Excellent for electronic fasteners and contacts where solder-ability is required. ASTM B 545

The cost is about twice that of zinc.

Zinc Plate

Zinc plating is a widely used coating that provides sacrificial corrosion protection for steel parts. This coating is applied using either barrel or rack methods (Clear, yellow). ASTM B 633
